ARTICLE OF THE NIGHT

This article hits a bit more than it should, especially given the state of industry in 2018. While many craft breweries are outspoken about their ‘bespoke’ buzzword attitudes, like ‘hyper-local’, or, pressing the fact that they are so independent than those ‘big brewers’ out there, and, my absolute favorite, preaching equality of minorities into the industry, they soon refuse to listen to the elephant in the room – the often low salary/wages of their brewers.

While immense strides have been taken since I came into the industry 9 year ago, the idea is now rearing it’s head, that if you want to survive in this crowded industry, you need to have the best beer… And if you want the best beer, you need to be willing to pay for the best brewers.

Am I implying a unionization of the brewing industry will magically fix everything? Absolutely not. But the topic of low wages is being discussed, and that’s at least a step in the right direction.
