Pinegrove’s last album, Cardinal, was easily the embodiment of the summer of 2016, for myself – the subtly brutal, yet honest lyrics, really spoke rhythms to where my mentality was during that point in my life, and caused a rift for what exactly my future held. Last November, Evan Hall, the lead singer/songwriter for Pinegrove, posted a vague statement on social media about a relationship he held with another person, that quickly turned non-consensual in a multitude of ways. The fallout left Pinegrove silent for over a year, and delayed the release of their newest album… Until now. Following the wake of the said statement, extreme animosity was pushed towards Pinegrove and many different levels. Regardless, it’s always good to remember, that even in the heat of the moment, there’s two sides to every story.
